Jake Powell Elected to Board Secretary and Steve Dean Elected to Region 6 Director

San Antonio, TX – (March 14, 2023) Pape-Dawson Engineers is excited to announce Senior Project Manager, Jake Powell, P.E., CFM and Vice President – Water Resources, Steve Dean, P.E., CFM have been elected by their fellow members of the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA) to key positions of the Board. Beginning this month, Mr. Powell and Mr. Dean will serve as State Secretary and Region 6 Director, respectively.

 

Mr. Powell has been an active member of TFMA since 2014 and previously served as the Region 6 Director, debating and executing changes to organization policies, bylaws and budgets, and leading the subcommittee responsible for updating the 2023-2027 strategic plan. He has also served on the TFMA Conference Committee.

 

As incoming Secretary, he will explore and execute methods to ensure organization members and the community have the resources needed to build a flood-resilient state. Other initiatives that Mr. Powell will lead include new member recruitment, involvement from young professionals, and the development of collegiate membership and conference participation. “As TFMA Secretary,” he says, “I will work to realize the association’s goal of being the industry’s most respected floodplain management professional organization.”

 

Mr. Dean has been a dedicated member of TFMA for 10 years. Throughout his involvement with the organization, he has presented at 10 TFMA conferences and luncheons, led Floodplain 101 Training for future CFMs, and served on the TFMA Public Outreach Committee.

 

As Region 6 Director, his primary focus will be to promote education and awareness around flood risk and flood safety. “With new floodplain mapping becoming available in the region, public education will be key in building awareness of possible impacts and how the community can protect themselves both before and during flood events,” he says. Along with public education, continuing to grow TFMA is a top priority. “I think that through education and outreach, we can encourage young folks to get involved early and begin building the next generation of leadership.”
