City of Fort Worth
Expanded Use of
Flood Warning System

Pape-Dawson performed data-driven flood forecasting models to expand the use of Fort Worth’s flood monitoring system at low-water crossings. The concept has been so successful that it has been expanded for use at unmonitored locations.

Our team’s innovative approach applied statistical hydrologic and urban flood risk hydraulics to develop roadway overtopping rating curves that make real-time forecasting an instantaneous process. Through calibrating flood models using recent storm events, Pape-Dawson helped the City achieve an 85% accuracy rate in predicting overtopping events, with a goal of eventually achieving 95% accuracy as part of a continuous data-learning and improvement algorithm.
