City of Fort Worth Flood
Risk Mapping Updates
Pape-Dawson conducted urban flood risk modeling and mapping for over 950 square miles in the City of Fort Worth using the 2D HEC-RAS rain-on-grid method. Our innovative application of HEC-RAS enabled the City to achieve significant savings in both cost and time. HEC-RAS is a user-friendly, freely available software that is accepted by FEMA and USACE, and it demonstrated faster run times compared to other proprietary options. Within just four months, Pape-Dawson produced citywide urban flood risk maps incorporating storm drain approximations for the 1-, 5-, and 100-year storm events. Our results aligned closely with previous studies conducted using other software, underscoring the potential of this method for large-scale urban flood risk mapping.
