One Sumter
Americus, GA
This master concept for a multi-purpose community park is exactly a place for the community to gather, a venue for artists to shine, and a park that remains true to its natural beauty. This master plan stems from the One Sumter Board’s vision to create a destination that is inspirational, sustainable, functional, and above all, a place for the community to come together and celebrate.
The amenities that encompass this design include an amphitheater, event venue, dog park, children’s playground, ample open space, and a guitar entrance plaza paying tribute to Pearly Brown, a local musician and icon whose talents were oppressed during his lifetime.
The 4.61-acre site was first the location of Habitat for Humanity’s original Headquarters and their Global Village & Discovery Center. The organization wanted to ensure any future development of the site was unrelated to their Global Village campaign. To complete the transfer of property, a concept for the intended use of the site and structures was required.
The amphitheater scales as one of the largest in the region and offers a unique outdoor experience to attend performances. The Grand Lawn provides the park with a flex green space when the amphitheater is not being used. The terraces provide hardscape interest that define the space and help maintain the integrity of the sloped lawn overtime.
A phasing plan was also provided which strategically sectors the construction scheduling to accommodate client needs.
