TxDOT/City of Austin I-35
CapEx Central Utility
Relocations, Lady Bird Lake
and Downtown Sections
Pape-Dawson was responsible for the identification and schematic relocation of Austin Water utility lines in conflict within TxDOT’s 13.5 mile corridor for the I-35 Capital Express (CapEx) Central Project. Pape Dawson engineered the relocation of these utilities for Downtown and Lady Bird Lake (LBL) segments within the I-35 CapEx Central Project. The 2.5-mile LBL section relocations consist of approximately 2 miles of 8’’- 54’’ wastewater and 5 miles of 8’’- 48’’ water lines, while the 1.6-mile Downtown relocations consist of approximately 0.5 miles of 8” to 48” wastewater and 4.5 miles of 8”- 66” water. The I-35 corridor is a dense urban environment with limited right-of-way. Construction methods include open-cut, trenchless, and bridge attachment. Between the two projects there are four 36”, one 48”, and one 66” water crossings of I-35 ranging from 50’ to 100’ deep.
