City of San Antonio – Blossom
Park Channel Restoration
This was a city bond project to alleviate local flooding and erosion in an existing channel. The project scope also included street, sidewalk, and utility improvements. The channel was regraded to provide positive drainage, and the existing culvert was improved to withstand a 100-year storm event. The channel contained a 90-degree bend which could not be improved, so the outer top of bank was raised to allow “super-elevation” of the channel flow. The channel was armored using a tufted geosynthetic channel liner, a first for the City. Apart from being completed on time and under budget, the success of the new channel liner shows promise for use in the future.
