South Texas Medical Center
Pape-Dawson served as the prime consultant to provide preliminary and final design to improve mobility within the South Texas Medical Center. These improvements included the addition of 3 miles of hike and bike trails and 3 miles of sidewalks, as well as traffic and pedestrian upgrades for 20+ key intersections. The network of sidewalks and hike and bike trails connects hospitals, medical offices, and other businesses with the transit center, residences, and the City’s master-planned bike network.
We used design standards based on the Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) guide for development of bicycle facilities and roadway design, as well as standards established by the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD), Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS), and TxDOT roadway and hydraulic design manuals.
