JW Marriott Resort and Spa
Pape-Dawson managed the design teams responsible for providing civil engineering and environmental services for the 1,000-room JW Marriott Resort Hotel and two PGA TOUR Tournament Players Club golf courses in north San Antonio. The project also included a water park and a 100-space underground parking garage below the hotel’s ballroom.
The civil design team provided topographic and tree surveys and designed surface parking, site grading, new utilities, a storm drainage system, and water quality basins for the hotel. The team also designed storm drain collection systems and catchment basins as part of the closed-loop water capture and reuse system for the golf courses.
Environmental design and permitting were provided for the overall resort including environmental site assessments, karst feature evaluation, geologic assessments, water pollution abatement plans for the hotel and golf courses, and a stormwater pollution prevention plan.
In addition to on-site improvements for the resort hotel and golf courses, the team designed approximately 2 miles of collector roadway, 8 miles of water line, 1.5 miles of sanitary sewer main, and 3 miles of electrical transmission and distribution systems for the off-site infrastructure. The project also involved the construction of two offsite water wells and a 16” pipeline to bring water to the golf courses. Pape-Dawson coordinated all aspects of the water well siting, drilling, testing, permitting, and development.
