Pape-Dawson was the civil engineer for the 470,000-SF Microsoft MSN Live Data Center. Our responsibilities included assisting the client in selecting a site based on known constraints, such as building setbacks, easements, floodplains, and drainage issues. Environmental services included completing a phase I environmental site assessment for the presence of hazardous substances on the site. The civil site design included facility design, raised floor design (slab at different grades), coordination of all utilities (sanitary sewer, domestic, recycled, and fire water), dual-feed service for communication redundancy, fiber optics routing, dual-feed service from different substations for electrical redundancy, back-up generators, and secured monitored entrance and exit.
