The W-1 was part of the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) Consent Decree compliance program and provided the elimination of historical sanitary sewer overflow locations. Pape-Dawson provided planning, design, and construction phase services to deliver a 4-mile regional gravity wastewater main to serve customers and to give SAWS the ability to accept 97 MGD from its western sewershed.
Sewer system improvements included bypassing wastewater flow at all interconnections between the existing and new sewer systems, while keeping the existing system online during construction. Our services also included relocating underground utilities and coordinating geotechnical, environmental, and surveying services to further evaluate the existing wastewater main alignment.
